When shopping, keep in mind a few important factors to reach your decision. First, keep in mind the spacing available in the house and your childs age. For toddlers you will want to make sure that the desk is solid and sturdy. For older children you want to make sure that things are solid enough for use but it is also flexible enough to meet their needs. For example, a pre-teen might want a keyboard roll out tray to play computer games or a storage compartment for school books.
If your child ends up sprawled on the floor, as one of our always did, try to make sure THAT spot is within a good pool of light, whether from a nearby table lamp or a floor lamp. The light provided by ceiling fixtures, track or can lights just is not enough for reading. Since the distance from the table or floor lamp, to the floor where your child is, is greater than from a desk or table, the nearby lamp should have at LEAST a 100watt bulb.
A kids desk with a lid is also a good idea for kids desk furniture. They can keep all their important stuff as well as any loose papers inside the desk and keep the lid down to stop the papers blowing away or getting thrown out by mistake. With a lid on, they will also not be able to accuse each and everyone of misplacing their books and papers which would also result in fewer tantrums and accusations ringing out early in the morning just before going to school.

Kids also need lots of space to work, and also a place to call their own where they can put their creative energies to work. A desk with lots of cubby holes, drawers and places to keep their stuff will work well for children who will be able to find things easily whenever they need something instead of having to run around looking for things which breaks their concentration and also make them lose interest. Therefore kids computer desks that are "all in one" would be the ideal desk for kids to have.
The best material for a desk is timber and is often the most readily available. Some types of timber are strong to withstand the impact and constant use. Wood like oak and veneer are usually combined together to make a stunning desk fit for your boy or girl. However, another durable material is MDF which is a great base if you want a painted finish.
