A desk can be purchased as a stand-alone item. Usually, it does not have to match with the remaining kids furniture in the room. Bedrooms with themes consist of matching furniture and accessories from the colour coordinated bedding and throw rug. A desk can actually make a statement in a room, especially matched with a funky chair!
Desk designs are so versatile that you can now find a desk which will suit the character of your child and their space. Finding beautifully crafted desks to suit either a rumpus room or the bedroom is easy with the many options available.
When shopping, keep in mind a few important factors to reach your decision. First, keep in mind the spacing available in the house and your childs age. For toddlers you will want to make sure that the desk is solid and sturdy. For older children you want to make sure that things are solid enough for use but it is also flexible enough to meet their needs. For example, a pre-teen might want a keyboard roll out tray to play computer games or a storage compartment for school books.

However, even from a very young age children want to sit and concentrate on an activity with pens, textas and crayons. By getting your child a desk, this will prevent them drawing or possibly vandalising items of furniture in the home because kids love to draw!
Much as we love them, for desk or bedside use, because they are flexible and give such good reading light, we do NOT recommend them for any children under 10 years old. The downside of that wonderful, pure white light from a halogen bulb, is HEAT and an accidental brush could result in, if not a real burn, at least a very uncomfortable experience. And as we learned with our easily distracted child, a lamp with movable parts is just more fun to play with than doing math.
