If you are going to include your child in the selection of her lamp, do a bit of pre-shopping. Lamp choices can be daunting to an adult, but they be overwhelming to a child, whether the child is 5 or 15. Over and over again, we have watched moms lead their under-10 year old child to our stores "Kids" section, ask the child which lamp he likes, then try to talk the child out of his selection, because it does not fit the space or decor of the room.
It takes a lot of creativity to redecorate the kids room. It is easier to plan for a childs room, but if there are two kids in the pad, you have to discuss this with them because they may have different color and furniture preferences. Plan the redecorating with them and reach a compromise before starting anything. Show them the kids furniture online and discuss the salient features. They will appreciate this gesture and get into the planning actively. After all, it is their room.
If taken care properly, this furniture may last a lifetime or beyond. Selecting the material for your childs desk should be the same process as you were selecting furniture for your home. You may event want it to be passed down as an heirloom to the next generation.

If your child ends up sprawled on the floor, as one of our always did, try to make sure THAT spot is within a good pool of light, whether from a nearby table lamp or a floor lamp. The light provided by ceiling fixtures, track or can lights just is not enough for reading. Since the distance from the table or floor lamp, to the floor where your child is, is greater than from a desk or table, the nearby lamp should have at LEAST a 100watt bulb.
There are many different reasons that you should consider getting your child his or her own kids desks. One of the main reasons is that it creates a place that they know is theirs. It is important for children to feel belonging. Having their own space and responsibility for said space can help create that sense of belonging and importance.
