Kids desk furniture should also be easy to clean and maintain. Kids always like to draw on the surface of their desk or scratch them when cutting paper and cardboard in the course of their work and crafts. They also tend to spill their drinks and paint on their desks. Therefore a childs desk should be one that is easy to clean where the spills can be simply blotted and wiped away without any marks being left on the surface.
Summer is over and school is back in session (we moved South years ago, but still have not gotten used to kids starting school before Labor Day!) and it is time to make sure your child has a quiet, well-lit place to do homework. A couple observations from a working mother of three, who just happens to own a lamp store.
A kids desk with a lid is also a good idea for kids desk furniture. They can keep all their important stuff as well as any loose papers inside the desk and keep the lid down to stop the papers blowing away or getting thrown out by mistake. With a lid on, they will also not be able to accuse each and everyone of misplacing their books and papers which would also result in fewer tantrums and accusations ringing out early in the morning just before going to school.

Where, in the house, a child does his studying is the real issue. Whether it is at a desk in his own room, on the floor of the living room or at the kitchen counter. The important point, of course, is that a specific place and a specified time be designated and a routine established. And wherever that place is, your "job" as a parent to is make sure THAT is the spot that has adequate reading light.
If you are going to include your child in the selection of her lamp, do a bit of pre-shopping. Lamp choices can be daunting to an adult, but they be overwhelming to a child, whether the child is 5 or 15. Over and over again, we have watched moms lead their under-10 year old child to our stores "Kids" section, ask the child which lamp he likes, then try to talk the child out of his selection, because it does not fit the space or decor of the room.
